School of Parenting Podcast Episode 001 - Reducing stree from parenting..001

In this first episode of School of Parenting we unpack how knowing the difference between goals and desires can impact your parenting and family.

The Highlights

  • If you have a goal and it requires someone else to make a decision for it to happen, you actually don’t have a goal.  You have a desire.
  • Anger is the result of a blocked goal.  Have proper goals, eradicate anger in your parenting.
  • More is caught than is taught.

Eric’s Priorities

During the show I, Eric, was listing my priorities that I’ve identified for my life.  Marissa had asked me what areas I though parents should have defined desires and goals in.  I had mentioned:

  1. Spiritual Health
  2. Physical Health
  3. Character Health
  4. Marriage Health
  5. Parenting Health
  6. Family Health (Including immediate and extended family)
  7. Friends Health
  8. Workplace / Leadership Health

Scriptural Foundation

Marissa read and we talked about Ecclesiastics 9:4-12 as it relates to parenting.

9 Two people are better than one.
They can help each other in everything they do.
10 Suppose someone falls down.
Then his friend can help him up.
But suppose the man who falls down doesn’t have anyone to help him up.
Then feel sorry for him!
11 Or suppose two people lie down together.
Then they’ll keep warm.
But how can one person keep warm alone?
12 One person could be overpowered.
But two people can stand up for themselves.
And a rope made out of three cords isn’t easily broken.

Question: What areas do you think parents should have defined desires and goals for those desires?
